If Messi scores in Barcelona's Copa del Rey quarter-final against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, he will take a combined goal tally with Ronaldo to 1,000 goals for club and country. Since scoring his first Barcelona goal as a late substitute in a 2-0 win over Albacete in May 2005, Messi has hit 481 overall - including 49 for Argentina.

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo striker was a free agent having been released by Tottenham in September but has agreed a deal at Selhurst Park until the end of the current campaign. It is understood negotiations between Adebayor's representatives and Palace began just over a fortnight ago. The player has been training every day with a personal trainer and passed his medical at the south London club this morning. He will be assessed by the Palace backroom staff tomorrow morning and they will establish whether he will be fit enough to feature in the Eagles' fourth-round FA Cup tie against Stoke on Saturday.
